Temperature sensing and circuit protection.

Thinking Electronic offers components for temperature measurement, inrush limiting, overcurrent protection, and transient suppression. These functions call for different devices and ratings. We help identify the relevant family and work through normal operating conditions, expected faults, and the installation requirements.

Choose by the job the component performs.

NTC thermistors
Negative-temperature-coefficient devices for temperature sensing or inrush-current limiting, depending on the series. Choose the function first, then compare resistance characteristics and operating conditions.
Ceramic PTC thermistors
Devices whose resistance rises with temperature, used in selected protection, sensing, and heating applications. Match the switching characteristic and electrical limits to the circuit.
Polymer PTC resettable fuses
Overcurrent protection devices that increase resistance during a fault. Compare hold and trip current at the operating temperature, voltage limits, and recovery conditions.
Varistors
Voltage-dependent components that limit transient overvoltage. Specify the normal working voltage and anticipated surge waveform when comparing clamping and energy-handling requirements.
Gas discharge tubes
Surge-protection devices that conduct when their sparkover threshold is reached. Review surge current, sparkover behavior, and coordination with the rest of the protection circuit.
ESD suppressors and TVS diodes
Transient-protection components for power and signal connections. Compare working voltage, clamping behavior, and capacitance with the signal and protection requirements.
Temperature sensors
Sensor assemblies for measuring temperature at a defined location, including thermistor and platinum options. Specify probe shape, mounting, response time, leads, and environmental exposure.

Temperature sensing and circuit protection requirements.

Contact us →
Temperature measurement
Include the temperature range, accuracy, response time, and mounting location. For thermistors, compare the resistance and temperature characteristic required by the circuit.
Current and voltage protection
Describe normal voltage and current, expected surges, and the fault condition. Inrush limiting, resettable overcurrent protection, and overvoltage suppression are different requirements.
Installation and documentation
Share space, lead or connector requirements, and environmental conditions. Confirm the selected device ratings and approval documentation for the application.
